Children's Miracle NetworkEUGENE, Ore. — Some North Eugene High School students got waxed Wednesday as part of their Children’s Miracle Network Fundraiser–Highlander Heroes.

If the participants raise $100,000, they’ll wax the lower part of their legs.

This is the first year the pageant is allowing girls to participate. In the past it’s been called Mr. North.

Participants say this might make the scoring a bit closer, but they’re excited about the new competitors.

“I didn’t get involved because I am a female. I firmly believe that if you wholeheartedly devote your time and your energy and your love and passion for something, you will change lives, and it doesn’t really matter who you are,” said North Eugene High School student Nancy Cornejo.

There’s a dodgeball tournament Wednesday, Jan. 14 as part of their fundraising efforts.

The Highlander Heroes pageant will take place in March.
